Army Injures Young Girl in the Cimitarra River Valley

|

23.03.06

During combats between the guerrilla and troops of the Plan Vial y Enérgetico No. 7 Battalion of the Colombian Army, Liliana Granada, 11 years old, daughter of Jairo Granada, was wounded in the arm.

The facts occurred in the settlement of La Concha, jurisdiction of the municipality of Cantagallo, near the farm of the campesina Maria Esther, at 11:40 on the morning of March 18th.

At 12:30pm the same day, the child was transported in an army helicopter to the city of Bucaramanga, without her father’s authorization.

The army has assumed responsability for the aggression against the minor, who is now out of danger.

The ACVC has repeatedly demanded the groups in armed conflict not to fight in the middle of the civilian population, infraction that keeps happening over and over again.

We demand that the Colombian State investigate this serious violation, prosecute the soldiers responsible for it, and make amends to the family of the wounded child.
