FARC Assasinates Campesino in the Nordeste Antioqueño

CAHUCOPANA (the Corporation of Humanitarian Action for the Coexistence and
Peace in Nordeste Antioqueño), an organization that champions the defense
of human rights in the region, denounces the following actions taken by
the FARC against the civilian population:

According to information provided by campesinos in the settlement of
Cancha de Manila, on July 25th of this year at five o’clock in the
afternoon, members of the FARC guerilla assassinated CARLOS BERROCAL
TRUJILLO, identified by the cédula (id card) number 4’439.726.

In should be mentioned that at this time in Cancha de Manila the Colombian
Army is beginning military operations that have caused massive
displacement of the campesino population due to accusations made by a
civilian who accompanies the Army (Batallón Plan Especial Engergético y
Vial No. 8 of the Brigada XIV) and alleges that said campesinos are
auxiliaries to the guerilla.

We denounce this crime committed by the FARC guerilla and we demand
respect for the life and personal integrity of the people of the Nordeste
Antioqueño.
